Old fashioned and nice This hotel is old fashioned and nice, brown wood with olde worlde pictures on the walls, it had a very welcoming feel to it. We went with a coach party, and found the food was good, the fish especially, Staff were very helpful, mostly foreign nationals , but friendly with good English, all nice people. We were fortunate as our room was at the back,as it was the Matchmaker festival, which we didn,t know anything about, and Lisdoonvarna buzzed including our hotel, with music, and dancing.
In fact everyone was singing or dancing, great atmosphere. We didn,t hear anything, I know others didn,t get any sleep because of noise from reviews. We travelled with Just Go Holidays, which is our fifth time with them, and apart from the hotel which WAS great, the holiday was a shambles.

On the loose in Lisdoonvarna at the matchmaking festival Reporter: Mike Cowhey The Limerick Leader recently sent reporters Aine Fitzgerald and Anne Sheridan to the world-renowned Lisdoonvarna matchmaking festival to find out how the event measured up in the modern era — and who knows what else I have to be honest. On checking into my room and throwing my bag on the flowery bedspread, all I wanted to do was get back into my Peugeot, push that gearstick into reverse and head for home.
It was only a simple thing but it had driven me over the edge, already. Just a simple song. The Blanket on the Ground. Coincidentally, when telling a man about my book last summer, he told me that he had met his girlfriend there the previous year. He had planned to go down for the craic with two friends. The two of them changed their minds, claiming that farm jobs had become important. Nerves was probably the reason. He went ahead, went into a pub planning to have a drink in each of the seven pubs on the street but met a lovely lady in the first pub and stayed there for the evening.
See — it does work. So I asked those at the Hydro Hotel for their advice for people in that situation. It sounds like it is the most friendly approachable place in the world, for example, at the afternoon dancing sessions, everyone was being asked up to dance and having a great time.
